Our Graduate Student Clinical Internship is designed to help Master’s-level counseling and social work students bridge the gap between the classroom and professional practice.
As an intern, you’ll gain valuable experience providing behavioral healthcare while learning the operational side of a modern behavioral health practice. You’ll work alongside experienced clinicians and administrative professionals in a collaborative environment that supports both your clinical development and your long-term career goals.

What You’ll Do
Clinical Learning Responsibilities
Under the supervision and requirements established by your graduate program and clinical supervisor, interns may have opportunities to:
- Observe and participate in individual counseling sessions as appropriate.
- Conduct client intake assessments and biopsychosocial evaluations.
- Assist in developing treatment plans.
- Learn evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Complete clinical documentation within the electronic health record.
- Participate in case consultations and multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Develop skills in ethical decision-making, client engagement, and professional communication.
- Learn HIPAA, documentation standards, and behavioral health compliance requirements.
Clinical responsibilities will be assigned in accordance with university requirements, supervision guidelines, and applicable laws.
Practice Operations & Administrative Experience
Interns gain valuable exposure to the day-to-day operations of a behavioral health practice by assisting with activities such as:
- Client intake coordination and onboarding.
- Client scheduling and appointment support.
- Insurance verification and benefits review.
- Billing follow-up and revenue cycle support.
- Client communication and follow-up.
- Referral coordination.
- Community outreach initiatives.
- Provider support activities.
- Clerical and administrative projects.
- Medical record organization and document management.
- Quality improvement initiatives.
- Workflow improvement projects.
- General office support and other internship assignments as needed.
These responsibilities are designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of behavioral healthcare operations while supporting the clinical team.

Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree program in:
- Mental Health Counseling
- Social Work
- Marriage & Family Therapy
- Psychology
- Or another closely related behavioral health field
- Eligible to complete a practicum or internship as required by your academic program.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred
- Interest in outpatient behavioral healthcare.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with electronic health records is helpful but not required.
- Passion for learning both clinical practice and healthcare operations.
Schedule
- Flexible internship schedule coordinated with your academic program.
- In-office participation is required.
- Internship hours will be scheduled collaboratively to meet university requirements, client needs, and practice operations.
- Some evening availability may be available depending on placement.

Work Location
In-Office
Interns are expected to work on-site at their assigned Vievar Behavioral Health location. This immersive environment provides valuable opportunities for collaboration, observation, mentorship, and hands-on learning alongside experienced clinicians and administrative professionals.
